How to automatically switch between default audio devices?

I have an old, but still pretty good Fujitsu computer, with an i7 and all that stuff, and it's connected to a HDMI monitor. So usually, I just use the monitor's speakers as my computer's sound device. But sometimes, I want to listen to my music, and I plug in my headphones, but I need to change the default audio device every time I plug in my headphones, otherwise the monitor's speakers will keep playing. I remember that on Windows 10 I didn't have this problem, it would automatically switch to my headphones whenever I plugged them in. And I can't leave the speakers as the default audio device, as oppose to HDMI audio, because this computer also has an internal speaker that sounds awful. I tried to disable it, but with no luck.
So, my question is: how can I tell Windows to automatically switch between default audio devices when I plug in my headphones?

P.S. The headphones use the 3.5mm jack, and the computer runs a Realtek audio driver.

In case it's impossible, this might be a good second option...

(never tried it, but may do so one day)
