I have an 39" LCD HDTV by Insignia, model number NS-39L400NA14. I also have a VCR, that I got back in '08; an Emerson 4-head Hi-Fi stereo, model number EWV603. I would like to connect the VCR to the HDTV and play tapes and see it on my TV, but I don't know how or what to have. I still have the three cords (red, white, yellow) from the front, but is that enough or do I need more?

How can I make it work, is what I'm asking.

Red, white, and yellow RCA jacks on both the VCR output and the TV input should work just fine. You won't get HD 1080p images, but 525-line NTSC video. But you'll get to see your movies.

You will probably have to select the proper component input with the TV remote as most newer TVs have numerous input ports on the TV. I have a VCR, DVD player, & TIVO unit connected & still have an input for one more additional
external unit.

I'm having trouble. There are a/v jacks on the bottom of the tv, but each time I place a video cord in there while the other end is connected to either the front or bad of the VCR, I don't see anything. Either my TV doesn't work like that, or I'm doing it wrong

Are you trying all the different TV/video input selections with the TV remote. or do you have any available (empty) inputs on the back of the TV ?

I'm trying each slot under the TV and nothing. Under input there's: TV, HDMI 1-3, Conponent/AV, VGA, and USB. The slots there have to be accessible for me to do anything.

from the looks of it youll have to used the coax cables since that is your only option simply connect "ant out" from vcr to the ant/cable in on the tv the channel will still be either 3 or 4 if you have a sat dish or cable it will have to be plugged into the "ant in" on the vcr

I did that already, the an in and out, and nothing happened. But, the reason why it didn't was because of the auto channel search (I don't have a channel 3, and wasn't sure of what else to press because I have no cable nor dish, nor anything like that). But now, after connecting the coax and doing a new channel search, it finally works.

Thanks you guys. Consider this solved.

The white & red cables from the vcr connect to the red & white jacks on the back of the TV. The yellow cable from the vcr connects to the green jack on the back of the TV which is why it's labeled Y/Video (Y for yellow).

You need to select the AV input for the TV.
