So I want to replace the explorerframe.dll (theme purpose) but everytime I try to replace the dll I get an error saying I need some kind of permission. I used the search function and found this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html.
I installed it and took ownership of the system32 folder but still I'm being asked for some kind of permission, what else can I do ?

P.S. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.

You are just determined to make your life difficult.

You have taken ownership of a folder whose owner should be TrustedInstaller which is a special account used by Microsoft. Don't be surprised if you are plagued with occasional problems.

Next time you get such a wild idea, let us know what your objective is and perhaps we can help you.

For right now, I'm going to suggest that you choose a restore point prior to your "taking ownership". After doing that, let us know what the real problem is.

The problem there is not with the system32 folder but the file itself presently in use. You would need to boot up in safe mode where the file would be sitting idle.

First however for changing the user account ownership over any driver or folder you right click on the file and open the security tab. Once opened you click on the Advanced button followed by the owner tab on the screen that follows.

One more screen follows that when clicking on the Edit button where you find the system admin account already set. You hightlight your user account seen listed there and click the apply button. Right then you should see the "you have successfully taken ownership" message appear!

Once that window and the others before are closed up you right click again for the properties screen>securty tab and click on the other edit button and click on your user name again followed by checking off the full control box. The image attached here will give you a road map.

Thanks a lot!! This is what I was looking for :D

The TakeOwnership shortcut works on many small things like folder you made yourself while a driver being loaded directly by Windows is a bit awkward since system processes are involved. Once you see that message and close everything up you right click elevate the permissions for your personal user account with the edit option.

From there you may need to boot up in safe mode for any manual copy to overwrite since that will likely be loaded already into ram unless you can end the process with a look in the task manager. That becomes another project however since which process has to be ended? Safe Mode please! :D

With just the bare essentials for Windows loaded and having taken full control you shouldn't have any worry if booted in the safe mode. That will insure your present themes are not loaded as well which can tie up a driver.
