How to disinstall Microsoft Security Essentials 32 bit from W-7 64 bit

I am trying to install K9 Web Security but something won't let it install. I and K9 thinks it is a pre-release Microsoft Security Essentials 32 bit version on my W-7 Pro 64 bit O/S. MicroSecEssentials will not de-install by the conventional method. I've gone into the Key Registry but there was not anything there that I thought should be removed.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

The conventional method to uninstall MSE is through control panel > programs and features. Is that how you tried to uninstall it? If yes, this Microsoft KB article gives instructions on how to manually uninstall MSE.
