How to force direct x 9?

I wanna play battlefieldbad company 2 better and i was told to force direct x 9. i have a 2010 sony vaio. and it lags alot. any help please?? i have windows 7 home premium 64-bit

This is actually internal to the game not a windows problem. It's easy enough to fix though.

Go to your my documents folder, look for a BFBC2 folder open it. Inside you should see settings.ini right click it and hit edit go down to the line DxVersion change it to =9
save changes and exit.

Older games don't use DX11, very few support it
It is normal for the game to lag a lot since your laptop is not designed to play heavy games

I know but what can i do to minimize the lag, i dont have any other computer

Update the graphic driver might help but it won't 'boost' your gameplay, lower the game graphic settings.

Ive lowered everything. i made it so my system is running on performance, not looks. and all my drivers are updated. Would it be easier if i ran it on windows vista, without dx 11?

It won't make any difference at all since Windows 7 is based on Vista, DX11 is not the problem here, your GPU cannot handle that load

DX11 is backwards compatible if you are playing a game that asks for dx9 you are playing in dx9, if the game request dx10 you play in dx10. Very few games are actually dx11 compatible right now.

Sadly some game simply won't run right without a dedicated graphics card. Yours is a integrated gpu sharing system ram. It's not the same animal as a dedicated desktop graphics card.

as the others say, bc2 is a pretty demanding game, hardware-wise - it's never going to run smoothly on an ordinary laptop.

however, to answer the original question - if you want to force dx9 in other games, running the game in xp compatability mode should do the trick.

right-click on the program or shortcut >> properties >> compatablity >> run in xp sp3 mode

Try installing DirectX End-User Runtime, it will install missing files of DirectX 9. However, DX11 doesn't have every earlier DX9 files, many of them are missing.

Please see steps 5 & 6 here - Tips on Troubleshooting Game Issues. It explains the whole DX11 to older DX versions relationship.

Bottom line is in order to play DX11 games 3 items must be DX11 capable....

1- OS (software) - Windows 7 is DX11 capable
2- Game (software) - Game must be DX11 to be played in DX11 mode!
3- VIdeo Card (hardware) - If cards is anything other than DX11, no game will play in DX11 mode!!!

Bottom line is the system will play in the lowest DX mode available between the 3 items.

This was more than likely part of the installation of the game. Just about every game I've ever installed puts the dx distributable on your machine.
The game in question is dx 9c anyhow.

Dude, running DX 9 isn't going to make it any better. Your laptop doesn't have the hardware needed to run the game smoothly. The only thing you can do is upgrade your graphics card if you can and add ram. Other than that you will have to get a better platform for playing BC2.

He's on a laptop I don't think that game even list mobility gpu's in it's compatibility list.

Well if the game in question is DX9 than the OP doesn't need to "force" it because it will be run in DX9 regardless of the fact that Windows 7 is DX11 capable. See my earlier post.

Yeah it sucks to buy a game without understanding the minimum requirements.

You can also install XP on a partition and run the game in XP. It runs this game more efficiently. Not sure that would really help you or not but it did help me when I was running a dual core. Gave me +20 FPS.
