Solved How to get hidden files back???

Hey guys i'm using WinMend Folder Hidden application to hide my sensitive data but i guess i screwed up today all thnx to Ultimate Theme Patcher that patched my files & then i lost it...after the restart i could never get in & on the logon screen it kept showing "please wait" & screen going blank & black then again the same "please wait" & guess what this happened with me for the third time in the last 3 weeks (earlier due to VistaGlazz & other application)...Ok so i got into safe mode to do a restore but my bad luck the only restore was created after the patching of files through Ultimate Theme Patcher so the vicious circle continued again....my & ours only last resort reinstalled OS but then i lost the WinMend Folder Hidden file & like dumb ass i deleted the Windows.old folder....i also just tried "show hidden files" option but you know the result.........
now how can i recover those folders because they contain some important stuff...i need HELP so sending the SOS to you guys....this is urgent & ASAP...Thnx

Try finding the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL and modifying CheckedValue to 1.

i use winmend folder hidden and it doesnt matter i have folders/files hidden on an external. i re installed winmend on my new pc and as long as you havent forgotten password they will show when you open and input passwords.
Here's a link for re dowload if you have lost original. you have to use the old password you made to retrieve those folders using that password.

Nope thats the worst part is, no restore or backup...because i had installed it while using XP & just do Ctrl+x & V when i installed Windows 7 & that's what i did on the last 2 re-installation & it worked with no problem but this time i lost it completely & that's SAD & BAD toooooooooo.......There got be some resolution i guess its just i can't figure it out....

Julian i got the setup file & i do remember the old password, so if we r on same page...i need to install the WinMend Folder Hidden again & just use the old password to get back my stuff, is that correct???....

@unifex will the registry key will be there if i have installed OS completely again???

Recommend you cease any activity on the HD which holds your data - if you have another HD lying around you could try reinstalling your OS on that and retain your existing HD for an undelete/recovery program.

I am using WinMend Folder Hidden, and I failed to unhide the file. How to find my data that disappear in the hidden list?


If you using our software WinMend Folder Hidden, and failed to unhide the file or folder. Please do as below:
First of all, please answer following questions, which is directly related to the possibilities of re-obtaining your Hidden files or folder.
1. What is your Operating System, 32-bit or 64 bits and the language?
2. Which version of WinMend Folder Hidden are you using?
3. Have you run any cleaning software after hiding your files?
4. What anti-virus program are you using?
5. Can you recall anything unusual (such as a system crash or system restore or system reinstall) after hiding your folder(s)?

Second, please Download the attachment by clicking here: FindData.zip, then uncompress it.

Third, run FindData.exe, select the drive where you hide your file, select the drive's tpye (FAT, FAT32, or NTFS) and then press "Find Data" button.

Last Step, please copy the string the strings appear in the textbox and your answer to the questions and send it to us: [email protected]. After we get the answer and strings, we will decrypt it and tell you how to get your hidden folder back.

i will repeat though i had folders hidden on a x86 pc,
i then installed winmend on a x64 pc and when i pluged in external the folders were hidden on they showed once i ran winmend .using same password.

Thnx for FYI Lomai i know that but just being a lazy bum costed me something that's So important Thnx to Julian he saved me....will keep that in mind to remain away from such issue...but i want to know if you guyzzz read my 1st post why there was a problem after patching the files???...

Yeah it did worked Julian this is 1 hell awesome application...i just installed the WinMend Folder Hidden again & after completion i just entered my old password & i can see all my folders hidden back again....Thnx buddy few reps for you....

personally i use 7tsp for themes , it does everything from systems clock to forward /back buttons to system icons . have a look at this thread HERE

Which was why I recommended that you cease any further activity on your HDD, unless the OS and data you are after are on separate partitions and/or media. The only way to resolve this then would be via an undelete/recovery program - I'm assuming you simply reinstalled over the corrupted (previous) OS. Most likely, the registry entries for the previous installation are gone which could be why you are not able to recover (or find) the missing data. Possible ways to resolve this:

1. Recover (or locate) the missing data - essential that you do not try any further activity on the affected HDD in case your system writes new data to the (old) storage location on your HDD
2. Proceed with course of action as stated by Boobah

Julian an update for you the new WinMend Folder Hidden 1.4.1 is better then the older version bcz even if select a folder which is already hidden & you click "unhide" & it stays in the list & status shows 'visible' & then you can select it again & click 'set hide' & its hidden again...in earlier version its gone from the list once you want it to be "unhide" & then have to map it again to be hidden....Woww nice discovery......i guess yeah we can use this thread as future ref....Thnx buddy again

Ha.thats new, just installed thanks for update info, its a hell of lot less hassle not having to navigate back to hide again
