How to Get Microsoft to keep supporting Windows 7

It's all about money, remember that. So let's get a petition going where we say we are willing to pay for continuing support. Each one that is, pays a fee, one time for many years or on a yearly basis (probably the best seller). If enough of us sign up, they will have no excuse not to continue support of Windows 7. Personally, I do not like at all any of the latest versions. Alternatively, we could crowd source a firm to do it. Now Windows may be stubern. At that point we can crowd suit them: We bought their product, we are willing to pay for support past it's reasonable lifetime (in their opinion), so I would think it is a tort for them not to accept a reasonable offer to continue supporting it.

IMO only power that could affect this: a vast majority of business users still using\needing 7 as 2020 getting closer (but still only some prolonging like XP).

I don`t need support from Microsoft, 2020 is 4 years 3 months away, that`s good enough for me.

Microsoft is currently committed to supporting Windows 7 until January 14 2020. Microsoft currently has no interest in discussing support beyond that date when the situation may be entirely different than it is now. Much can change before then. Certainly they would expect, or at least hope, that there would be little interest in extending support when that date comes. And at this point in time who can say they are wrong?

I doubt you can lure MS into continuing support for Win7. Previous instances of a similar request for XP and they charge millions for it. A few examples:

For particular users, such amounts are totally impossible. It's difficult to think in a collective payment too, how many people would want to pay for that actually?.

Of course, Microsoft has a long tradition of ignoring its users and not caring about them at all. They certainly want the money . But a few other things to consider are:
What if, by that date, there is a newer, better Windows version? MS says that it won't release any more, but there is always an option of a worthy sucesor.
Third party better alternatives may become a good option by that time. I don't put too much faith in it, but ReactOS always seems a good alternative if it only became more stable. That could be a nice long-term solution to have an open source clone.
After all, why do you care at all about support? As long as you've it installed, it will just work exactly the same as before. And software it's likely to be compatible with it (there is little reason for it not to be).

Microsoft makes Zero Dollars off of free updates.
Microsoft makes Billions of Dollars selling new operating system. As they should.

Actually it is worse than that. There is a considerable cost to researching, developing, testing, and distributing updates. Currently Microsoft is doing this for Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Server 2008, Server 2012 R2, and Server 2012 R2. The client and server kernels are virtually identical but there is the server specific software that does not exist on clients.

Have I got this right: you say that Microsoft say they will not be introducing any new OSs after Windows 10?

On support, surely every OS needs security upgrades from time to time?
