Hello. i Upgraded from win xp 32bit to Win 7 ultimate 32bit.

i am upgrading my computers MoBo, Case, CPU, and CPU cooler.

with all the new hardware. will i have to reformat? and if so. how do i go about doing it? Will i have to reinstall windows xp, than upgrade to windows 7. or can i just put in the win 7 cd and do it from there since its an upgrade version and not full version?

i currently have these specs

Xcilo case
Intel core 2 Quad
EVGA Nvidia MoBo

New specs i am upgrading too

Corsair obsiddian 800d case
Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield 2.8GHz
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

so question is. do i need to reformat? if so, how do i go about it? xp to win 7 upgrade, or delete partition and just install win 7. and can i do 64 bit if i do complete reinstall?

thanks for help!

Hello moknathal, welcome to Seven forums!

If you are using the old Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and you have made backups of the data you want to keep have a look at the info below, that would be the way to go.

You can use 64-bit if you want, be sure to post back with any questions you may have and to keep us informed.
   Information

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "secure erase" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including the old Windows drivers, everything all data, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Do a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

Hi again. So i did the HDD clear using the command prompt. after its clear i take my comp out to my work bench and get started putting together new one and moving stuff over. As soon as it comes time to put the RAM in. my gigabyte MoBo only accepts DDR3 RAM. i was gonna upgrade anyways to ddr3 but i was gonna do it a bit later.

so as far as ram goes i was thinking corsair Dominator ddr3 4gb. or should i get 6gb?

i'm using OCZ reaper ddr2 atm. but this new mobo does not accept ddr2.

i will not b able to try booting up the system and installing windows 7 from the upgrade disk untell i get some ram in the main from new egg. i'm gonna order some tomorrow and try and have it shipped next day.

what are your all thoughts on ram? prices? how many GB should i use. brand? etc..

Here is my MoBo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423

here is what i was thinkin about getting.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR DOMINATOR-GT 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 Desktop Memory Model CMT4GX3M2A1866C9

and for 6gb i was thinking

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...corsair_dominator_ddr3-_-20-145-295-_-Product

Are the ones i have linked compatable with my mobo?

thanks for any help

Hello again.

You figure it out for yourself, look at the "Memory Standard" to see what you need, do they match? ;)
