I've scoured the intertubes for an answer but surprisingly couldn't find one.
I have Java installed (I need it because I use OpenOffice). Some people are annoyed with Java's auto updates and want to disable them. I have a different problem: I want Java to automatically download and install updates. But I want it to SHUT UP about it and not bother me. I don't need it to pop up and tell me that there's an update available, I don't need to click "Ok" and "Next" etc. In the words of Nike, just do it! I've looked through all the Java update settings and there is no option to automatically update silently in the background without bothering me.
Does anyone know how to configure Java to automatically and silently update itself in the background without bothering me? The way all my other pieces of software do? It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult. Thank you in advance for your help, it is much appreciated.
(This text is unnecessary to read in regards to the above question, but I just have to vent some frustration) <Begin Rant> I can't tell you how much it grinds my gears that every piece of software on my machine (or rather, the programmers who created them), think that they are the only software or the most important software on my computer, and that whenever an update is needed, it's the most important thing in the world and must pop up in front of everything else immediately because as we all know, I'm constantly thinking about what version of Java or Adobe Reader or Software XYZ I have, all day every day, I even stay up at night worrying: "Do I have the latest version of Java or Adobe Reader or XYZ? If only the software would interrupt me in the middle of whatever I'm doing and tell me that an update is available and require me to go through a multi-click install & wait process, that would make me feel so much better, because it's not like I have anything else going on with my computer or my life."</Sarcasm> Hey Sun Java (and others), guess what? You're not the center of my universe. Try to remember that you're just one of many pieces of software on my computer, all of which seem to be able to update themselves without blurting the trumpets, issuing formal press statements, and requiring me to fill out a home lone application in triplicate.:mad2:</Rant>

P.S. Just in case anyone suggests not to use Adobe Reader, I don't.
