Solved How to Install Final Fantasy VII in Windows 7 x64 (64-bit)

Everything seems to have installed fine (I just redid everything). I just get a muted black screen which flashes to prompting me if I want to start a new game. When I click on "New Game", it goes back to the muted black screen and nothing happens.

Any ideas? Please?

If you don't have the Chocobo patch, you need to install it.

Make sure you've got the tm20 [also called TrueMotion 2.0] codec installed.

You can also try running as Admin in Windows 98 compatibility mode if you're still having problems after that.

Thanks for those 2 links I have installed them but it still didn't change the situation. I have a Windows 7 64-bit laptop--is that the problem?

It might be. Final Fantasy VII on disk doesn't like newer Windows systems.

What patch are you using? If you're running it in Windows 7 or Vista you should be using 1.02 and not 1.04. If not apply the patch below, then reinstall the Chocobo patch and try running the game.

Thanks so much for all the replies, I really do appreciate it!

I am using the patch that was mentioned on the original post: ff7_opengl-0.7.8b (that's the Aali custom graphics ff7 driver).

I am trying the ones you listed now and seeing if they help.

AHHH THAT WORKED!!! The updated driver worked! Thank you!!!:shock::shock::shock:

It is just giving one error that the window mode I set to it (as instructed in step 5 where you put in your own screen resolution) doesn't work so it's reverting back to the original windowed mode size.

Any suggestions on how to modify that?
