How to install Windows 7 over Linux OS

Hi ppl,

I get new Acer Aspire laptop with preinstalled Linux Linpus Lith OS. I never used Linux so I just put Windows 7 Home Basic 64bit OEM DVD that I bougt with laptop. Windows loaded files but than froze. I was googling and traing for 3 days (and nights) to slove this isue but unsucessfully. I used Gpart to format hdd, change file format to ntfs, but still same problem. Do anyone has a clue what shud I do.

I would also post on a Linux forum how to add Windows to an existing Linux install. They are used to having Windows around on most machines. Not as many Windows users do Linux. But you should be able to find a HowTo or other guide Adding Windows Seven when Linux is already installed.

This link has some info how to add Windows 7 after a Linux is already on. It seems to have 2 schemes. Either recovering grub, or using easybcd and Windows boot loader. Esp. if you want to play with custom kernels(does anyone do that anymore?) I think grub is more versatile. You can load Linux from the same partition but with various startup options such as custom kernel, or scripts that load different sets of modules etc..

Also it's possible to make the equivalent of the old Linux boot diskette using a USB. The USB mounts the Windows partition and boots it. Handy if the MBR somehow gets hosed.

Ah. For some reason I got the idea the OP was going to keep both OS. But if he has no interest in Linux that makes it easier provided W7 has all the drivers needed etc..

Edit: Anything he needs he can probably get from Acer. But I wouldn't wipe anything unless he has a way onto the net using a friend's machine or another of his own. Never know what you might need until you can't get it.
