How to prevent email pop out in Outlook 2010

I've used outlook since 2003 and have recently changed my reading pane from bottom to right
I like the change except that now when I click on an email it will pop out
How can I prevent outlook from doing this?

Go to view and select 'Reading Pane' I believe the option should be called.

Okay. The email would only pop out if you double click on it... If you single click it should just be viewed in the reading pane.

But my emails are popping out with single click

Husaberger, have you tried reverting to having your emails at the bottom to see if the problems exist there as well. If it does & is the same as it now is, then perhaps there is a problem with your mouse & single clicking is in fact sending a double click.

I use Outlook 2013 & it is set to show the received email viewing in the right hand pane, which I get with a single click & if I double click it pops out.

I cannot find anything in the Options settings for changing that.

Did as you suggested
When reading pane is bottom- single click never results in email popping out
When reading pane is at the right- some single clicks result in email popping out
Will check mouse but does not make sense that it is the problem given the above
