I have one SSD intel x25m g2 80gb in my laptop and I'm wondering how can I prevent degradation of that ssd. Is updating firmware only solution or I can do something else even better than only updating firmware. I read one article that defrag apps only have positive response on degradation problem. Best regards, Alen

You can't. It'd be like fitting a new tyre on a car and expecting it to be eternal. The cells in SSD's fail after XXX millions of read/write sequences. They are then dead, and there is absolutely no afterlife prospect... :p

Hi there
your SSD should OUTLAST typical HD's however -- MTBF is GOOD.

Disks that become U/S after a while won't be very popular IMO.

Would you buy a car where it states on the 'Spec that after you've filled it up with gas or driven it more than xxxx times you have to buy a new one ( I know FORD / NISSAN etc would like that).

Your Laptop however is likely to become OBSOLETE LONG before the SSD is unreadable -- but it shows as in all things ALWAYS KEEP BACKUP.

Cheers
jimbo

Thank you jimbo45. I ask this because I don't ever have problems about hard disk failure. I saw the reaction of my friend when his mother accidentaly (or in purpose with smile muhahaha!111 ) has kicked his 500gb WD full of data while cleaning his room (it's not ssd. It's pure spinner but my reaction will be the same as of my friend if something goes wrong). And on internet i found thousands of articles writing about ssd degradation and that's it's become unusable for period of time. I ask this because I think it's just happening. And one more question. Is it better to not use win defragment? [Which is the best way to threat ssd hdds?- This is primary question] This ssd technology is very strage tech for me.It's not like an usb and it's not cheap at all. I'll be less worried if i've bought black caviar and everybody's happy. :-D.

Sorry for bad English and long post. But after using acad for 10 hours, i think that writing is the best for stress- don't think on problems. Maybe some workout will be good, too. Best regards. Alen

Yeah for SSD's, turn off autodefrag, superfetch, and then install the firmware and run TRIM often. I schedule TRIM to run every day.
