How to restore from backup

Had a HDD failure - disk replaced and a clean install of W7 32bit carried out.

I had been using backup tool to create incremental backups ..


I have the nice 'backup folder' Backup set date xxx
on an external HDD ... and in it a number of files


How do I reinstall my files from this backup ?

I looked under backup and it only seems to give option to restore form a restore point ... which is not what I wan to do.

OK .. did retsore .. my account is there ... so good start.
Other uses accounts not appearing (i.e. no name/icon on login screen)
If I look in C:\users there is a folder matching each user.

How do I recover thier profiles/accounts ?

A clean reinstall will wipe everything out. The backups created in "Windows Backup" are only backups of files that you have selected to be backed up. It will not restore use accounts. They will have to be recreated again.

is there a simple way or recreating user account and ponting to the files that it restored ?

That way they get their filed emails etc.

Not after a clean install without a image backup.

This may help though.

• First, you'll need to move the folders that you restored from the backup to your desktop for now.
• Next, create new user accounts for those users, and log on to them so that thier C:\Users\(user-name) folder will be created.
• Afterwards, log off of them, and log back on to your administrator account.
• Now, copy what you want (ex: pics, music, documents, etc...) from within the restored backup folders on your desktop into the new user accounts' C:\Users\(user-name) folders.
