how to restore music/photos from backup cds

please help- i need to know how to get my precious photos and sanity music back from the most recent backup cd's i have . my hard drive crashed and i had to get a new os system/cleaned. i was using vista home premium, but now have vista ultimate. (whats the difference) i am terrified that if i use these 4 cds in my new state, it might mess up something. my tech said that it can't be done, but i think he just didn't want to do it. someone please help. from :-( to this thx
