Hello.

My computer used to be joined in our office domain. Then one day our server crashed and we had to re-join the domain. When I did this, Windows created a new user in my computer. To be clear, my user folder used to be "username1", not it became "username1.DomainName". Our admin said I just need to copy my files from the old user folder to the new user folder. Is there another way so that I can still use the old user folder? What can I do in my computer (or the server) so that I will re-use the old user folder? My username in the domain did not change.

Thanks.

Jay just to be clear what is the difference between the new set up folder / domain etc to the original one - have they changed the OS for example.

I work for a gov dept and recently they went over to Windows 7 from XP and a lot got changed and it threw us a bit at first. So it leaves me wondering what cannot you do in the new format that you couldn't do in the old??

Thanks for the quick response.

There is nothing much different in the new setup. My computer is the same, same OS. The only thing that changed is the user's folder in C:\Users directory. My old folder used to be "C:\User\username1". Now it became "C:\User\username1.DomainName". But the old folder ("C:\User\username1") is still there. It's just not my default directory anymore. I'm just thinking how I can use the old directory instead of the new one. One of the reasons is the settings for the applications I've been using. Now, when I open msoffice for example, it needs to install some new files for the new user.
