first step is to read up on it. make sure you no what your getting into before doing anything. make sure you understand the settings and no what your doing before changing them. don't jump ahead read read read. after reading make sure to start out very small and test it after changing the settings each time . please just don't
jump into it .

The other key to over clocking is proper cooling. You can get a 2-10 percent OC with stock cooling if you are lucky but the system won't feel dramatically faster. With top shelf cooling, proper PSU, Mobo and a good CPU then you can go safely higher but to my mind going slow and proper cooling of the CPU is key. Read the tutorials here and learn your bios options inside and out, take notes of changes and then test each change while watching temps, go slow and good luck and understand this is like investing in the stock market, "only invest as much as you can afford to burn up" !
Oh and save up for a 64 bit OS version and max your ram......that will make a larger speed upgrade then this OC venture IMHO ! And fast ram is cheap at the moment !

the thing is that if i tell you how to do it and if things go bad that don't look good for me . it's better if you read and understand it for yourself first. and if you google overclocking all the info is there. sorry i wasn't more help but it's best you understand overclocking before doing it.

Just make sure you have 911 for the fire department on your speed dial when overclocking and the heat builds up.
Not sure you are going to get much noticeable bang for you efforts.
But that's just my opinion.

thanks for the replys guys!!!!
I really appreciate your help!
But i decided not to go through with it.
During my reading of various article i read that you will need good cooling systems (which i dont have or intend to buy).
And also the procedure for bringing back the original setting if the whole thing blows up is quite confusing.
So i guess i am happy with my system!!!
ohh and SEVEN FORUMS ROCK!!!

srinisid,
A wise choice at this time, but do read and learn your bios as the sooner you de-mystify the settings and process the better chance you'll understand how to make and restore settings in the future. Do look into purchasing (2) 2GB matching sticks of DDR2 1066 ram to maximize your machine, even though it will only see 3.2-3.4gb's of it.....it will speed things up nicely.

SRINISI its ok if u oveclock your cpu. To over clock remember these my personnel experience

1. Cool cpu with atleast 2 fans which u can build or connect to ur own, not easy. but its interesting as i feel.
2. you require overclokable cpu, overclockable motherboard, overclockable gpu, overclockable ram i.e. DDR3 is good.
3. Increase your FSB * MULTIPLE in BIOS & save wait untill it restarts cpu.
