How to stop explorer windows opening in a new window?

Hi guys,

This has been getting on my nerves recently, because every time i click on a folder etc. it opens in a new window.
It is an new pc with windows seven on it.
I have had 2 viruses if that helps.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options. Under Browse folders, you'll see your two options.

I assume you got rid of the virus?

Hi, if you go in regedit
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell and you see OPEN in right pane that's wrong. Double click the key and delete open.

Try again.

You might be able to ease the problem if your dad will let you have your own User Account, and then you can set your preferences the way you want to (with dad's approval, of course) and dad can have his User Account preferences the way he wants them to be.

Once you change somthing in the registry it is instant. No "Are you sure you want to do this", just does it. The problem with this is that if you change the wrong thing, you will break the computer. It is possible to look through the registry for the values posted by Zardoc without changing anything. Just be careful not to double click any values and change them. If we know what the value is in your registry for opening folders, we can narrow down the problem that much easier.

Are you saying that the registry address (the exact address) isn't there?

If that's the case, then there is an issue for sure.

If your dad want's to, I can restore the key without harming the machine.

All he has to do is upload this file, double click and accept the commands. Reboot and retry.

P.S., Create a restore point before you run the command. Make sure that the system is virus free before doing anything

It's virus free now, but I can't do system restore. It's disabled.

This may sound silly, but why don't you enable it? That's an important tool to have running.

Guys -- I wouls strongly suggest that you stop telling him to go against what his Dad has told him. Your advice is going to get him in bad trouble. -- eddowii, just follow what Dad says you will stay out of trouble.
