how to temporarely deactivate f-keys

hello everyone! can someone tell me if I can temporarely deactivate in a LAPTOP the function keys (F1, F2 and so on, normally dedicated to functions like dimming, changing volume...), so I can use them for gaming? some games need that keys, but I cannot use them because they do something else...

From my experience, those keys shouldn't do anything without you pressing the Function (Fn) button along with them. They should behave as regular F1-F12 keys when pressed by themselves. Are they not doing so? Which laptop model do you have?

thank you for the quick answer! in fact belongs this laptop to my nephew, I must ask him for the model, anyway it is a nearly new HP. unfortunately the function keys do dim, change volume and other function just by pressing them without the fn-key...

Its probably setup like my Dell Netbook where the function keys (F1-F12) required the Fn key to be pressed. Luckily, Dell added an option in the BIOS to reverse the change, now dimming and volume control require the use of the Fn key.
