I have purchased Windows 7 Professional 32bit DVD from a retail store. After I have activated the key it shows OEM in the licence number. But now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit. Can anyone tell me what should I need to do? I know that I have to a fresh installation formatting my system drive. But my question is will I have to purchase again Windows 7 64bit DVD separately or download Windows 7 64bit online and can use 32bit serial which I have to activate it?

You need to do a clean install of x64. Simply download the x64 ISO, install and activate with your existing key.

If you paid for a retail license, I`d get right back to the store and ask them what`s up.

OEM does not cost as much as retail.

They gave me a DVD of Windows 7 32 bit SP1 and at the back of the DVD cover it is written OEM software and a serial key is provided just below it. How can they even sell OEM copy as it must be preinstalled in a system as far as I know.. They must have provided me a retail copy right?

Like I said, find out what you paid for, OEM or Retail.

An oem key is tied to the 1st motherboard you install it on. Retail can be moved to another pc as long as it`s only used on 1 pc at a time.

If it says oem on the package, then that`s what they sold you.

But I have assembled my PC. So this means that I will not be able to use it in different PC or I cannot upgrade?
