Solved Howling and Squeeling when recording

New CYBERPOWERPC gaming computer that works great EXCEPT when I attempt to record, I get an echo when I try to record, and terrible screeching and howling from speakers unless I turn the mike gain and volume down far enough to practically mute the sound. Have tried many times to set the recording and playback to stop the howling, to no avail. Sound is great for playing games and movies and such. Set up tells me than the echo from the mike is OK. Have two other PC's (Win 7 Home and
Windows XP 3) that the mike works great with.

Feedback from speakers is a common issue. I'm a musician (and have a recording studio) and on stage unless things are set right there can be feedback.

With a PC and the mic and speakers being in close proximity you have to turn the speakers down to eliminate feedback (squeal). This is why many that use the PC for things such as Skype or gaming use a headset with a mic, to minimize any feedback.

This has been a problem since day 1 of PC's and not a problem just with Windows 7 or a specific brand of PC.

I have heard of, but not seen, a PC or PC program that will automatically mute the speakers when you use a mic.

Thank you for your kind reply. I have three computers sitting on my desktop, an older but high performance HP (2.8 dual core), a refurbished Dell (2.8 dual core) and a new CYBERPOWERPC
that is the most powerful.

I have recorded for a number of years on the HP at higher volumes with no problems. The Dell
with the XP Pro OS also records without any problems. I finally did something that I should have
at the very start. I plugged the mike into the rear of the CyberpowerPC and recorded without any
problems at medium speaker volume. It appears that the front microphone jack is defective. I
haven't plugged ear phones into the front jack yet, buy will soon. I set the mike gain and volume
in the middle and still no problems.

I purchased a Vantec 7.1 audio adapter but don't know how to record with it. Does it work
with the Windows 7 Sound Recorder? Having trouble finding information about it online.
Does it replace the standard mike jack. It seems like a nice little unit with lots of volume.

I worked for 10 years on the Dell users help forum. The feedback problem was a common complaint on that forum too. I had a Dell Dimension E510, it had the feedback with both the built in sound and a separate SoundBlaster sound card.
