Hello:

Just recently purchased a used HP DM4 in the secondary market and started having problems with it. My shutdown process takes a very long time; sometimes in the 1/2 hour range. After it complete the shut down, it decides to reboot with the usual choice of start in safe mode, safe with network, etc... .
I select start windows normally. That's when a message says Windows was not able to shutdown properly.

So I've read the various postings related to this issue on this forum and attached the files. I would appreciate any info and assistance in this matter. Thanks in advance.

A couple of specific problems:
Using Windows Update, I can't 1) download and install Win 7 SP1 and 2) download and install the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450.

Using HP assistant, I am unable to complete a HP system restore.

Basic System Spec
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Original installed OS was the same
The OS is an OEM version that came with the laptop
Original purchase date is May 2010
I have not reinstalled the O/S.

HP Pavillion DM4
Intel i5-520
4GB DDR3 RAM
320 GB 7200 SATA Drive
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 Graphics with switchable Intel HD GRaphics
Builtin HP True Vision WebCam
Intel Wireless 802.11 b/g/n with Bluetooth

Thanks,
Marshall

You uploaded the application not the results please try this method.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Okay. I followed the instructions. Here is the zipped minidump file.

On bootup, I received an actual blue screen error that said:

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

At the time this error was generated, there was a wired Microsoft Optical Mouse 3000 attached and nothing else.

Hope I did it right this time. Thanks again in advance.
