HP Laptop wont start after battery dies

So you are saying updating BIOS is pointless? The LEDs are blinking twice, thats an error code for BIOS failure, possibly BIOS corruption, which an update would fix. If it's not BIOS corruption it's hardware failure. Re-seat RAM sticks, Graphics & HDD.

I am saying that you do not need to update a BIOS to correct a BIOS corruption. You can correct a corruption with a RESET or ClearCMOS.

Also, a hardware failure can be the cause of the error (flashing LED). It does not need to mean a BIOS corruption only.

I did say if it's not corruption its hardware failure.. The BIOS update could have a fix related to the problem, thats why a reset wouldn't fix it but updating would.

Hardware failure re-seat your HDD. Re-seat just means unplugging and replugging, if you don't know how to re-seat those you can watch these.

What happens if you don't let the battery run all the way down? Any problems then?

Why do you need to run the battery all the way down? (I am assuming this is what you mean by "I let the battery die")

no problems if the battery dosnt run all of the way down. If I plugit back in while there is battery life, all is well. Well, sort of, its been running painfully slow latley too.

did the RAM sticks. Not sure about the resetting the CMOS if it worked or not. I found a few ways on the net, nothing seemed to work. Unless I didnt do it right. It still flashes at startup.

This reminds me of a joke:
A guy says to his doctor: "My arm hurts when I do this" (he twists his arm around behind his back)
The doctor says: "Well, don't do that"

It is not good for a battery to run it all the way down to zero. That is why Windows default power settings warn you when you get to about 10% reserve and automatically shut down when you fall below that. Having the system shut off because of no power can cause all sorts of problems, both with Windows not shutting down properly and with the BIOS.
So, don't do that.

As for your system running slowly after these kinds of events that is not a surprise. Let me see if I can find some info to fix that.

I also highly recommend downloading and installing CCleaner https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner from Piriform, the running the cleaner to wipe away all the stray files that can slow a system down.
Then running Windows own Disk Cleanup utility (access from the Start search box)

its not intentional when I let it run out. I know its bad, but..................when the kids are jumping all over each other, the laptop takes second to them LOL.

I know about the other stuf, defrag etc.
