There are many different passwords.

The password that the mini "setup" prompted you for was probably not even set and could have been ignored.

Best to ask your husband about that since it is his netbook.

Now you had mentioned another problem on another computer.

Would you like to pursue that problem?

Not really, lol, it's too old and I plan to get rid of it after Christmas. I was just thinking it would be no good for making a copy of anything for the Netbook's problem if I ended up having to.

I was thinking Lenovo myself. I was going to research it but now I don't have to
So, I just now realised that the password for logging into BIOS is not the same password we use for starting windows. As we didn't set the password for BIOS, I have no idea what it is and couldn't find a master password that worked.
Do I need to remove the CMOS battery or will that do more harm than good? Maybe I should just call HP and make them do the work as I rather think, in my case, a little knowledge is a a dangerous thing..
The only reason I'm still looking at the bloody thing is because I don't want to share my P.C with my husband

Some person set the bios password. That person could probably help you.

I've never heard of HP presetting the bios password. Doesn't mean that they didn't. Definitely contact HP then and ask them for the password.

On googling, I found this BIOS password lark is a common problem on these netbooks. I suppose I'd better ring them later

I've heard of this password issue before. Calling it a "lark" is generous.

They're trying to say it's a keyboard problem. Er, no..
