Hey everyone, Windows 7 did an automatic update yesterday and now every time I turn the computer and boot into the OS it will not load the desktop. I only see the mouse pointer, Windows logo, ease of access and shut down options buttons with a black background. I have never experienced this problem and it was working fine before. I wasn't able to see what the update was, however I know it was a most recent one. I tried waiting several minutes thinking maybe the desktop would finally load, but it didn't. Safe mode is of no use because I also see the same black screen the way it looks in normal mode. The computer has no known viruses or any other issues that would contribute to this problem that I'm aware of. I would like to know if there is a different solution to this besides using backups or system restore points. Possibly a registry entry I could change or delete or system file to replace. I'm not sure of how to get into the registry editor because crtl-alt-delete or ctrl-shift-esc won't work to open task manager. I tried using start up repair from the recovery disc and scanning the partition where the OS is stored for errors with check disk. No problems were found either way. When clicking the ease of access button I also receive an error saying "utilman.exe - Bad Image." Thanks for your help.
