Hello,
My grandmother recently dropped off her HP Pavilion DV7-4073nr Laptop because it would not turn on. I'm not saying it doesn't boot, I'm saying it simply just would not turn on, not even to the BIOS screen. (No, I'm not an idiot, I plugged in the thing.) When I press the power button, I just hear the fans spinning, and it abruptly turns off. I've tried this several times already and it just would not power on. I suspect this is a power supply issue. I don't think it has anything to do with the hard drive, as it doesn't even have time to access it before the darn thing just shuts off. Please help.

Thanks in advance!

Try first to clear the power circuits. Do this, exactly as told:
  • Remove the battery and disconnect charger
  • Now press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds
  • Wait 15 minutes
  • Connect the charger
  • Try to boot
  • If laptop boots now, shut it down, insert the battery and try again

Ok so I tried your recommendation. It booted up to the "Windows did not start correctly" screen, and then the power went off. I tried again, but it did the same thing (powers on for 2 seconds, turns off abruptly). So unfortunately that didn't do much.

It seems it was really damaged when dropped. I am sorry, can only recommend to bring it to a repair shop or contact HP support.

Whoops, I think I worded that wrong. I meant she gave it to me after it wouldn't boot. I am not certain if she dropped it, but I sure hope not. So if it was really dropped, then I wouldn't know what to do.

Sounds like a heating issue . Can you use canned air spray on the vents ?

My bad, being a non-native English speaker the fine nuances of the language often goes unnoticed by me.
