Hello, I need help with my mom's laptop. So, she uses a HP Notebook G62 and the problem is that most of the time, the screen doesn't turn on, it still runs, and when it does turn on, it boots and after I login, the screen be at a black screen with the mouse cursor movable then the mouse cursor freezes at the black screen. Also when you take the laptop out of hibernation, the screen won't turn on most of the time. I really need this fixed, because it the only laptop that our family only has currently (my laptop is... Kinda broken right now) and I don't want my mom paying over 200$ just for something simple to fix. (sorry if there is any typos, random spaces, or errors in my typing, I'm typing this on my phone currently)

Hello WhiteGalaxy-

Are you able to get into Safe Mode by repeatedly pressing either f5 or f8 (not sure which is the correct one; It's f12 on my Dell) when you boot the computer.

In your other thread, you seem to have a screen. How's that?

Hi WhiteGalaxy,

Welcome to SevenForums!

The screen isn't turning on right now so I can't get into safe mode.

If you have got a monitor or tv, you can use a VGA lead to connect the laptop to the monitor or tv. You will then be able to see the screen.

To find out if all your hardware device drivers are working correctly you can check for any yellow triangles in the Device Manager [Start => Control Panel => Device Manager => Expand ALL nodes]?

If there are any yellow triangles you can view the Device Status [it will give you the Error message / Error code] of the problem by => right-clicking the item with the Error => click Properties => General tab.

We can then go from there!

I hope this helps!

Hi WhiteGalaxy,

I have the laptop connected through vga and it's still not show anything on the second monitor.

Just a thought!

[1] Did you try booting into Safe Mode with the VGA attached?
[2] Have you tried removing the HDD and then replacing it [do not force it when removing and re-seating the HDD]?

Hi WhiteGalaxy,

I removed the HDD and reseated it.. the screen and the second monitor is still black when I turn the laptop on.

This is not sounding good [it could possibly be a failing HDD]!

[1] You could possibly try booting from the installation DVD/USB if you have one. In your case, this will only work if the CD/DVD ROM is set as the first boot device though. If you do have one, then you could run a Startup Repair!

[2] If you have another computer that you can use [because you said this is the only computer that your family has] you can try the below to see if it is something to do with your laptop or the HDD . . .

Win 7 System Recovery Options - Linux LIVE DVD Or USB

You can create a Linux Live DVD or USB [this means that the Linux OS runs directly from the DVD or USB and not the HDD because it doesn't need installation]. This will read the HDD information which is inaccessible through Windows directly from the controller and is often a better solution in these types of situations. Another advantage of this is that you will have less activity on your HDD while you are trying to access it to retrieve [look at] the files.

Download the Linux ISO [I have used Linux Mint for this example] from here => Linux Mint.

Now burn the ISO [you can't just copy and paste it because it won't work] to a DVD or USB.

To burn the ISO to a DVD, you can use the Windows 7 built in ISO burner.
To burn the ISO to a USB, you can either use Rufus 3.4 or Rufus 3.4 Portable.

Using Rufus will ERASE ALL THE DATA on the USB, so make sure that you backup any data that you need FIRST. The USB MUST be bigger than the ISO file that you are burning.

Now boot into the DVD or USB.

Nothing will be installed to your HDD unless you specifically tell it to. You can now retrieve [look at] the contents of the HDD from within Linux. When you have finished and want to go back into Windows, just remove the DVD or USB, then Shutdown and Restart the computer.

I hope this helps
