HP Probook 6570b with Intel ac-7260 connection issues

I have an HP Probook 6570b with an Intel 7260.HMWG.R Revised network card. Lately, the connection has been a bit spotty - dropping out completely at times.

I'd be fine to replace the card if I knew what card might be appropriate/compatible, but any info I've found is more than a bit confusing. I happen to have an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230, an Intel WiFi Link 5100 Model 512AN_HMW and a TP-LINK TL-WN752N USB adapter. Is there any way to know if any of these would work? They all appear to be the same form factor (PCIe half minicard). I can try them I suppose, but the other concern is how to find the drivers needed (I'm using Windows 7 Pro). It seems Intel has been kind enough to remove all traces of their older drivers.

If I were to install a new card, would I still be able to revert to the ac-7260 if the new card didn't work? i.e. will the OS be able to re-install the right driver for the ac-7260?

Having said all that, I'd be happy with a more up to date card - again though, how do I know what would be compatible? I'd rather not upgrade to Windows 10, but I suppose as a last resort, I could.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi

Its easy enough to swap in/out those mini cards, (popper connectors)

I used to use the 5100 card, gets you a max of 300mb download speed on my W7
latest driver is 14 3 2 1, got it from Softpedia i think
(its still chugging away on my linux comp)

7260 drivers are also on that site

First off tho look at the Advanced option tab in device manager
i'd opt for
Preferred band 5ghz

thanks,

One question - I've never really understood how drivers are installed.

Suppose I install a new network card and the drivers for it. If it doesn't work and I put the old card back in my machine, will the original driver still be available for Windows 7 to use? Perhaps that's pretty basic, but its not clear to me.

OK

smart move...
even with your intermittant wifi
download the drivers for those 3 cards, stick em on your desktop

swap the "new" card in and update the driver....>> right click<< on the download and run it

removing the card does not remove the drivers

You should stick with the Intel Dual Wireless-AC 7260 wireless card that's already in your HP laptop.

It has 802.11ac technology and is faster than the others you mentioned which have slower 802.11n technology.
