HI,

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook on which I replaced a faulty hard drive yesterday. However, when trying to perform a system recovery using a USB with a recovery image stored on it, I encounter a problem.

The following link shows the HP system recovery guide I have been following:
Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) | HP® Support
(Please scroll to 'Recovery from a USB flashdrive')

Everything is working fine up until step 10. Upon (successful) completion of the 'recovery preparation', I am prompted to click continue to restart and proceed to the 'recovery installation' part. However, once the PC boots, it remains stuck on the first boot screen (black background with HP logo in middle, 'press the ESC key for startup menu' in bottom left)....

Thanks for your help,

Have you tried to press the ESC key and selecting the flash drive to boot up again?

From what I understand what is happening is that, when the PC restarted it does not know what to boot up from. Your replaced HDD is empty without OS and it doesn't auto boot from the flash drive, so it's stuck there waiting for instructions.

Yes I have tried pressing ESC (and the f-keys) but nothing happens ....
It's like the pc has crashed upon restart.
