Solved I don't have permission to access my C drive!

On my new win7 home 64bit system I wanted to share my drives so that it would work with my other winxp computer as well so I used the trick of assigning permission to "Everyone" on all my drives. This worked great (better than the homegroup). However today I decided it wasn't a great idea to share the C drive so I removed permissions for "Everyone" on the security tab thinking I was just undoing the ability to share it. OOOPS. Big mistake. Now I can't access the C drive at all even though my user acount is labled as an administrator. When I select the Security tab of the C drive properties I get the dreaded "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings."

I tried safe mode, but I get that same dreaded message.
I added a "Take Ownership" context menu (using the Ultimate Windows Tweaker), but when I right click on the c drive and click on "Take Ownership" is appears to do nothing.

Damn, damn ... I've been working away configuring my new computer and I haven't done a full Acronis backup of the C drive for three days. (I know - that was stuuupid.) I can go back to that backup, but that means many hours of work lost. Please someone tell me it is possible to undo the removal of permissions to my C drive. HELP!!!!

As an update to my sad situation described above, I tried system
restore figuring that would get me back most of my work. However system restore just reported "Access Denied". Evidently I need to access the c drive to restore it. Darn again.

I also tried booting to safe mode and running "cmd" as an administrator (using my usual windows account). Then I typed the command:

takeown /f C:\ /r /d y

However I got the message "ERROR: Access is denied."

Personally I feel there should be no one way switches in any software. Sooner or later someone is going to switch it, and if you can't switch it back and you need to ... well that is more than frustrating.

Try enabling the hidden admin account, log into that then reset permissions. You may have to do that from the RE. Everything in this tut.

It was easy to create the hidden admin account as shown in that tutorial, however then I flailed around quite a bit figuring out how to reset the permissions of the c drive. Eventually I prevailed. Thanks to you, I didn't have to resort to restoring my old backup.

Still issues with this

I'm still having trouble accessing my C: Drive. Can even manage the steps to make a hidden account, it won't even let me access my CD Drive when i insert a CD :S

Network Drive's Frolder is not accessible

I have a network drive - R:\
I have a folder in there called temprkim (I use it for IT related this and that between computers)

I tried to access it at it says:

Location is not available.
R:\temprkim is not accessible.
Access is denied.

I go into the property and click Security and it also tells me You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings.

I click on Advanced and tried to add new Owner and it tells me:
Windows Security
Unable to set new owner on temprkim.
Access is denied.

Help?

You need to go to the computer that the network drive is on and check your sharing permissions. Remember that deny rules overrule any allow permissions, and ntfs permissions are different then share permissions

That solved it.
