I HATE Laptops!

I have a laptop, yet I hate it! Why? Laptops always get hot over every task you want it to do, like playing YouTube videos with the charger in..

How are Youtube videos intensive? Why do you need to put your fans on, when I'm watching something?

I wish I could have a desktop :'(

My primary laptop hardly heats up. It will shut off the fan a lot because it doesn't need it. Make sure your vents are cleaned out by using some compressed air and blowing out the vents for the fan. Plus, some laptops just heat up. There is nothing you can do unless you feel like modding the laptop. My old Dell Inspiron 8600 will get up to 70 degrees celcius which is 158 degrees farenheight and that is with clean vents. Try cleaning the laptop and post back if that doesn't work.

Just because your laptop gets hot it doesn't mean they all do. Don't condemn the whole class of computers based on your experience with your laptop. BTW, there are desktops that get hot too.

Cleaning the vents as suggested by windude99 may help but it's also possible that you may need to open the case and clean the fins of the cpu heatsink as well as dust and lint trapped in the fan shroud. I have done that on a few laptops that were running hot and brought the temps done.

When I upgraded my Latitude memory I also made sure the vents & sinks were clear, there's not much there.
Not to sound cheap but the other day in a dollar store I picked up a plastic laptop cooler. It's just a cradle that sits under the laptop to make sure the vents get air.

One of my HP laptops also heated a lot. I exchanged the HDD for an SSD and the heat problem was solved.

You could try a cooling pad.

GPU Hardware acceleration. Disable it your browser.

Obviously laptops run hotter than desktops because they're compact.

Use a cooling pad, clean the exhaust vents, raise the laptop to not block the exhaust vents etc.

They'll always run hotter than a desktop mate. Size vs heat - That's the trade off.

There's something wrong with your laptop.

I love mine; I can't lug my desktop over to my friend's LAN parties. Actually, I COULD - I have a car, and over the years I've taken to leaving spare things like keyboards and monitors over at his place, lol - but it's much less hassle to slip the laptop into a bag and carry that. Also, it helps if you purchase quality laptops.

When I got my HP laptop in 2009 (my first real laptop), it didn't take long for me to notice how toasty it got underneath when I did something intensive such as gaming or watching a DVD. I eventually accepted it as being the nature of the beast. I haven't invested in a real cooling pad yet, but sometimes I set it on top of one of those small baking grills that I got out of the kitchen. Kind of a makeshift solution to deal with the heat.
