I hate my mouse

My mouse is a logitech 325. and replaced twice a year because sooner or lately it becomes totally unweildly. A massive burden to keep control and move the cursor around.
If i buy another one it'll be fine until this disease returns.
My wife is a lot more active on her PC yet no demonstrations from her mouse.
Why?

I just browse. no gaming.

I think that you just answered your own question. If you are too far away from your computer then it doesn't matter what type of wireless mouse you use, bluetooth or radio, it might not work correctly.

Does that tower have PS/2 ports? If yes, purchase and use PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse. You might need to purchase a 3ft extension for each item. It will be very worthwhile, the "to and from" PS/2 operations normally are much faster than USB KB and mse.

So you guys are saying a wired mouse is a better solution rather than keep buying/tossing USB mouses?

A possible reason maybe - my video card crashes regularly, screen freeze/ black out / recover nearly daily sometimes. Can that be interferring with the mouse movements across the screen?

Absolutely! Any imminent, on-coming. crash will definitely cause very erratic mouse operations. Both the oncoming crash and KB/MSE controller are "fighting for computer control" -- very similar to an airplane suddenly entering a violent macroburst.

I'm not conversant on all the whys and wherefores of USB mouse technology. I just know what works.

A couple weeks ago, I replaced a wireless Logitech USB mouse/keyboard combo that I'd been using for the past 10 years or so with a new Logitech USB mouse/keyboard combo. I've tossed the box they came in, so I don't have a model number for the set, but the individual component model numbers are k270 for the keyboard and m185 for the mouse. I bought the set at Best Buy here in Houston for $25. I think I paid close to $100 for the old Logitech mouse/keyboard set that this set replaced. And the funny thing is, this cheap set performs better. The keyboard's keystrokes are crisper and the mouse is much more sensitive and pleasantly scrolls on any surface I've tried.

So, what I'm getting at is, maybe just try something cheap. You might be pleasantly surprised.

My desktop PC mouse is constantly freezing when I am using it. This has been an issue for a few months and it is annoying the Hell out of me.

I read online suggestions to adjust the power settings in Control Panel and going to Advanced Settings then in USB Settings disabling Selective Suspend Setting.

Next I tried in Device Manager to see if I have two mice and sure enough I see there are two HID-compliant mouse for some reason. After some headaches as to which one to disable, I did disable the first one and for a moment it appeared to solve the problem. BUT NO! The mouse still stops when I move it around the screen.

Does anyone have a better suggestion as to what I should do next?

Many stores today, will sell you a new mouse for under $10, so why on earth don't you just go get a new one, instead of wasting your time griping about it on a forum?


By the time I write this, you should have already solved your problem with a new mouse. Eh?

Mouse Freezes

I have no reason to believe that the mouse is faulty although anything is possible.

I suspect this is a computer issue.

I would suggest substituting a known good mouse on your computer to see if the mouse is the issue. If you don't have a spare or can't afford a new one you can run a bootable version of linux such as knoppix, linux mint, or ubuntu and eliminate the operating system. If you substitute the mouse and there is still an issue or you substitute the OS and it is fine we need to troubleshoot Windows or an app on your computer. If the mouse substitution fixes it or on linux it is still sluggish then there is a problem with your mouse and you will probably have to replace it. If you have a mouse with a ball in it you can remove the ball and clean the little wheels inside the mouse. If you have a more modern laser mouse you can try cleaning the little laser window but those mice really aren't serviceable since they are so cheap.

I swear by my two ELECOM trackballs I got out of Amazon, the one on the workstation is wired, the one on the PVR is wireless.
Of course you have to clean both a mouse or a trackball, as dust and lint fouls up the rollers, causing erratic operation.
The ELECOM has a nice pop out ball, providing access to the rollers/sensor pickups. It doesn't matter what brand, I've noticed Logitech has dropped their prices on the M570 but I still prefer my ELECOM : Amazon.ca

As you have a desktop (as I do), buy a USB extension cable and put the mouse receiver on it about a foot from the mouse.

Looking at your specs, do you have an external monitor connected to your system?
