I have a question about Win7 Home 32bit

That's my OS Win7 Home 32bit. When Windows is shutting down and a screen comes up saying waiting for such and such prog to shut down and there is 2 buttons bellow 1 saying "Force shut down" and the other "cancel". How do I change the amount of time that the screen hangs there before Windows goes on with the shut down? Also is there a way to make that screen pop up even if there is no prog's needing to be forced shut down? My reason for all this is. Is to have a secondary cancel button to abort the shut down rather then wait for the laptop to shut down then have to restart it. I sometimes forget to do something and remember it just after hitting the final execute to shut down. Case in point. I was just about to shut down the laptop and go to bed. I remembered I wanted to type this post 1st.

The time to kill programs shutdown is in the registry, you can simply google that.

You don`t want any programs causing a delay in shutdown.

And once windows starts shutting down you don`t won`t to interrupt that.

I would make sure the programs you are using are closed before you shut down your computer. That includes browser, email and things like Skype programs.

If you still get the notice then you probable have something in the background running that shouldn't be running.

Pretty much this. Hit the start button, type msconfig in the search box and hit enter. Click on the Startup tab and see what's starting up with Windows.

I don't believe the screen is really hanging it's just waiting for the program to respond and shut down properly as the message states do you want to force or wait for the program to respond as windows is already doing,

The second issue is common Oops I forgot to do something
I do that too I just say my bad and restart after the shut down completes,

Instead saying such and such program is shown possibly actually state which program or programs are not shutting down properly and someone might be able to help with them one by one,
