I often install programs to drive R: because C: doesn't comprise of much space. Almost always the start menu items point to an executable on the C: drive which of course does not exist. Why is this happening? Is the fault in Windows or the programs installed?

its always advisable to install it on c anyways.. so why don't you try and increase the size of c drive .. using Windows Disk Management

%systemroot%\system32\compmgmtlauncher.exe

Put the above in the start box.. and then increase the size of the c partition if possible...but be careful if you don't know what to do..cause you might accidentally do some serious damage.

My C: drive is an SSD and doesn't have enough space for every program.

Most Likely i think it might be the software program.. they might be pointing to %SystemDrive% ..which naturally points to c:\ (SSD) .... btw if you paste this on the startbox..and press enter.. what is opening up ? the SSD or the HDD?

%SystemDrive%
