Hi All,

Not sure if this should go here or in the Network forum, but here goes anyway. :)

I have an Actiontec GT784W DSL modem/router and the problem is with outgoing emails to GMail using Port 465 for secure SMTP with the firewall set to Medium or High.

The incoming secure POP3S GMail on Port 995 is fine and is shown listed in the Firewall settings and checked for OK.

If I disable the Firewall, the 465 Port SMTPS works fine. If I set the firewall security to Low it also works fine. BUT, there are about 70 unchecked-preset ports and rather than test every one singularly with an outgoing email, I thought I would ask here first. Is there specific Port in the Actiontec firewall list I can check that will allow the outgoing Port 465?

In case you are wondering, this Actiontec allows for a a second SSID and I want to lock up the goods for when friends may be using it.

Thanks

Doesn't it allows to open outgoing connections on TCP port 465? If it's not in its presets there should be an option somewhere to enter a custom one, where you can enter it.
Be careful to not confuse TCP 465 with UDP 465.

Doesn't it allows to open outgoing connections on TCP port 465?

Thanks, but nope. It only has a check list of about 70-Ports to allow or disallow. If I allow all of them, the default, emails go out OK.

It seems that one of those Port options will allow the TCP-465 activity, but I have to step through them one at a time sending an email after each setting to find it. It's a royal pain as I have to click an option, wait until it updates the settings then reboot the modem. It is a Modem/Router so it then has to connect to the DSL again. It takes about 4 to 5-minutes for each one.

I have been doing that and narrowed it down to 43 of the 70. :)

I was hoping someone here had already solved the problem as it is an older router that was also used by Verizon and QWest for their DSL customers. Actiontec also sold it as a stand alone model via Amazon and that's where I got it.

It was really quite advanced firmware for it's time with the multiple SSID option. It is only now that I am finding that they were "not quite there yet."

You might want to look through this list

Thanks, but I did exhaustive research before posting here. None of the problems referred to come close to solving the issue as I had already checked them.
