I was attempting to install an Apache Server and PHP5 and I did
not get the results I expected. So I atempted to reinstall Apache.
Still no good.

So I attempted do do a 'clean' Apache install by 'cleaning' the registry
of Apache related items.

Well I have really screwed up the registry. Programs dont run
as expected. services dont run.,.,. yup- my fault.. I should
have known better. I feel like an idiot.

So I tried a system restore. No luck.
I tried a sfc/scannow. It ended and reported no errors found. But
did not fix my problem.

So.. whats the next proper step? The Windows 7 Repair Install??

I am in the process of backing up data files and device drivers.

Hi and welcome to the Seven Forums.

Yes, I think a repair install is now your best option. It is basically an in-place upgrade where both old and new OS are the same, re-installing Windows, so it keeps all your installed apps and devices, settings and data files.

Anyway, it's always good to backup.

In the future, be careful and backup the registry before any major cleanup. It's easily done by choosing Export from Registry Editor's File menu.

A system restore in safe mode would be another option. That may work better provided you have valid shadows.
