Hiyya Bill sorry for the wait mate look run these in this order the first two in safe mode just to check the system.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html< if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2

http://www.superantispyware.com/

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

ADW download from bleeping computer delete any rubbish found with the malware scans

(NB If one is running Kaspersky security it may rant about ADW - just ignore it or disable Kaspersky while the ADW is being used)

There are other scans to use but these are the usual ones to try first. Oh and make sure the external drives if any are disconnected first.

PS Machine model please :)

Ok Bill I / we need the model mate Asus ********* etc and did you manage to run those scans yet?

If you did and found nothing then I think this might be well worth a try
How to record Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 to a USB device and boot a computer from it you will need to make a bootable disk or stick I prefer a disk set the BIOS to boot from that device and let it run. It will scan everything and not involve Windows. Any problems post back mate.

Hmm sorry to hear you are sick mate and just get them to give you a tray or go over table to put the machine on.
Another thing you can do for us is run this

Using HWInfo

PARTA:

You can test the volts on the PSUwith HW Info HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download < download the right bitversion and close the right hand window select Sensors and scroll down to thepower section where you will see what the volts are doing see my pic. In my picthe section (Nuvoton) with VBATT isa dead give away you are in the section for the rail voltages. There are othersection titles and one that pops up often is ITE

Now the voltage on the differentrails have to be within 5% =+/- of what is required or the machine will notwork properly if at all.

See this for the rail voltage info

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,3061.html (Section 2.)

The original right hand windowshows the machine running and is handy for that but for looking at thecomponents in some detail close it and use the main left hand side panel.

For laptop battery info pleasescroll right to the end of that readout for the volts and Wh of the batterycells and also run the attached program from Passmark.

FOR OTHER COMPONENTS

PARTB:

Open each small square with + init on the section the components are in and then click on the individualcomponent/s (it will highlight in blue)- in the right hand side will appear all sorts of details including brandsspeeds and other essential info that particular device. See pic for example.

NB LAPTOP BATTERY POWER INFO

Please run this http://www.passmark.com.au/products/batmon.htm for at least five minutes and thereadings I am interested in are the tabs marked in the pic

Start with the very first left hand side tab and "Start" andlet it run for a while before taking a pic

The run the other tabs marked in red and take pics of each screen
The tab marked in black don't run as it a dickens of a job to get the screen back (until I have worked how to do that)

I am asking because power supplies seem so simple people tend to forget even the power supply can be out of whack and with it out of whack then how can one expect the rest of the machine to work??

Ok Bill mate just go ahead with the SAS - hit Continue all the way through to it's finished - these are usually adware and potentially unwanted programs (PUP's) and in general a nuisance rather than a real threat but all the same it goes towards unclogging the machine , having said that there are times when it will throw up a malware nasty.
The ADW just go ahead and clean that lot and reboot to make sure it is done.

Now if the machine is still very slow then give the Kaspersky rescue scan a go - the best thing about that is that is does not need to boot into Windows to run and will scan just about everything.

By the are you running Avast as your AV have you had any blue screens (the machine shuts down with a blue screen with white script on it and do you have CCleaner - it is really good at clearing the clutter and most of us use it constantly.

I'm thinking of doing a clean install on this computer. There is too much damage on the machine I only have a few programs on this computer ans, luckily, still have all the product keys. So I think that wll be the easy way out.
Thanks for the help you provided, ICIT2LOL, whatever that means.

No Bill the PS was just an afterthought on what the machine model number was as there are so many.

So if you are thinking of a clean install then take a read of this it is the easiest way to go and you don't need the original media either - you can borrow any Windows DVD and unlock the version that it cam with using the ei.cfg removal tool http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html referenced in this tutorial and the link anyway is this Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc
You can of course just get a new OEM ;) but I would in all honesty try to team it with a new drive

The upshot (even surprised e when I first read it) was that all versions of Windows 7 are on a DVD it just needs picking the right version (you had originally installed) out of them. You will have the activation code on the bottom of the machine and better still you will not get any of the machine manufacturers bloatware. Greg the tutorial writer is the absolutely master when it comes to this and more besides of course and he will advise you on any queries as will any of us anyway

Mate if you can run to an SSD say 250GB if you are a general user like me you will find the thing will run like a rocket. You can always clone to a larger one later;)

Still blathering on when you get the updates and security fixed then this is my bible for getting the best out of the machine http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11728-optimize-windows-7-a.html

Just a tip before you do anything save the downloads for the programs you use onto a stick it makes downloading them so much faster.

Look you don't have to thank me that much mate I am just glad I can help a fellow senior like myself out - we got to stick together and by the by if I didn't mention it I am an RN and still working so I know how annoying it is for folks in your situation - minds revving away and the body well it is sorta lags behind a bit eh LOL!! I know mine does cos the arthritis is fast catching up as some of my younger days smoking and drinking has:huh:

Feel free to message any time you like here or in messages:cool:
