i want to delete shortcuts

i accidentally put shortcuts on my7 desktop for all my downloads which is in the hundreds,how can i delete all or at least most without having to take the weeks it would take to delete them one at a time?

If they are overlapping on top of each other I would right click desktop then click Auto Arrange to separate them. Click on any one you wish to delete, then press Control a, to select all. Any you do not want deleted hold down the Control key while clicking on them to deselect. Once you have your selections press the Del key to send to the recycle bin. If there are too many for the recycle bin you may have to hold down Shift while pressing Del to delete them permanently.

The desktop shortcuts are stored in two places:
C:\Users\<name>\Desktop
C:\Users\Public\Desktop

Go to these folders and select those you want to move / delete.
You can sort by name or by date.

Agreed! C:\Users\<name>\Desktop and C:\Users\Public\Desktop safest way; just make sure to not delete the defaults, the folders, the specific program icons
