i5 430M v i5 560M

Currently cleaning up my L550 Toshiba laptop and am redoing the thermals now at present I have the i5 430M installed and have been given an i5 560M.

Now the 430 is Clock Speed
2.26 GHzMax Turbo Frequency
2.53 GHz
Bus/Core Ratio
17

and the 560 is
Clock Speed
2.66 GHzMax Turbo Frequency
3.2 GHz
Bus/Core Ratio
20
Now I do not have enough knowledge of what the Bus / Core speeds and the Turbo speed really means - have read that it can turn up the wick if the app needs it but as I just use the machine for everyday stuff I am just wondering should I leave as is? Because if it doesn't make that much difference then I'll leave the original core in. Plus I am going on relying on the new core working because I do not want to pull this thing apart again if I can help it should it not work.

Any help greatly appreciated.

If you know how to change out a laptops CPU, and you have the 560M, looks to me like it would be a nice upgrade. Higher base clock speed, and a higher max turbo clock speed. The 560M has some other features on it as well, scroll down the page and see what is supported on each.

I'd go for it!

Ok Kelly I'll do that cos if it turns out to be a dud I still have the other one. I thought perhaps that turbo boost feature was a fair jump in attitude LOL!!

I have never changed one before but I have the Toshiba dismantle stuff from irisvista.com and it looks like it is just a lock down screw and hen flip the heat sinks back in which by the way are absolutely HUGE see pic I took and compare it to the A200 one which is really quite puny by comparison.

The centre chip is the chipset it just has the base metal for contact and not copper like the other two (the one with the short heat pipe is the Ati Radeon chip.

The only problem with that is it had a small pad of material on it instead of thermal paste like the CPU and Ati chips suppose I can stick it back in with some Noctua it's thick enough.

Hum well I think I just killed my lappy I cleaned it all up even tried a a better i5 in in but power on and the opto clunks clunks and the fan runs slow for a bit then races up to fast then stops altogether.

So thinking it might be just the new core being a dud stuck the original one back in - same result so don't know where to start even looking?

Any ideas anyone?
