iastor.sys related BSOD

OK. That's what I was planning.

I tried to do a clean install last night, but it was not able to find a drive to install it on, and it asked for a "driver". It stopped there. I will attempt to wipe today, my only concern is having a wiped HD and no OS able to install on it.

Thanks,

Jim

Please unplug the other HD, boot the installer to see if the HD is shown. Delete all partitions to try install again.

If not, run the installer from your current install, see if you can install to C. It will not be quite as clean a reinstall as if partitions are wiped or deleted using Drive Tools, there will be a windows.old folder in C containing the entire old installation to delete afterwards, but it may solve your problem.

I tried that as well. And it is still not finding the hard drive. I've run it from DVD (burned with imgburn at 4x speed), from a bootable USB and from my desktop. Each one gets to "locate driver", and then I cannot go further than that.

Read your Manual to understand how to install without the RAID. You may need to disable it further in it's Control Panel.

I think he probably has the Intel smart response, which uses an SSD for cashing. I've never used it, but I understand it needs to be set up as raid for it to work.

Exactly. I'm trying to find a way to disable this. I am hoping once this is disabled when I try to install it will work. But I'm not seeing how to enable AHCI in BIOS screen (F10 at startup), and F2 at startup is diagnostics with no ability to make modifications.

You should have an option in BIOS usually under advanced settings called either storage configuration, sata configuration or sata mode. If you find the one listed as Raid, click on it (or press enter) and see if you don't have the option for AHCI.

Or, if you have an option for Intel smart response technology, see what happens if you disable that.

There's not that option in bios. Will try to disable the intel smart response technology and see what happens.

In msconfig it's listed as iastorui.sys. I'm assuming that is it.

I really can't answer that, but I don't believe that changing something in Windows will affect BIOS options. As a last resort, you could try disconnecting the SSD and see what happens. You may try looking in boot options and see if something about it is there.

This should be revealed in your Manual. Have you read it yet?

I think I would want the SSD cache, so if it requires inserting RAID drivers at prompt during install try supplying them after downloading and unzipping to stick from the HP Support Downlloads webpage for your model. Then see what it displays for drives.

Earlier I suggested trying to run the installer from Win7 desktop to overwrite C. Did you say that there are still no drives displayed during install even from WIn7?

It was a custom build computer I bought from ebay. I did not receive a manual for it.

I'll try to download the drivers from the HP website.

Yes, I tried installing from the desktop and it is still not finding a drive to install to. Interestingly enough, I forgot to disconnect my Data drive last time and that drive showed up fine. I disconnected the drive and tried again, and then once again, no drive to install to.

Your mobo will have a Manual on its SUpport Downloads webpage for the exact model. No need to continue guessing or wait for someone with the board.

Well. I was in the process of deactivating RAID in the Intel Control Center when I got a BSOD. Now I can't boot at all and I get an iastor.sys BSOD. with "STOP: 0x0000007E".

I booted to command prompt for clean and in "list disk" there are "no disks found".

When I try to boot from DVD for a clean install, I get a BSOD, same as above.

When I try to boot into recovery, I get a BSOD, same as above.

Are you following the Manual?

Nobody has a paper manual any more. You go to the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or mobo to study the Manual.

If this is not the HP notebook you have in your System Specs then please update your Specs so someone here can look up what you need to know if you are unable to do it.

Yes. I was attempting to deactivate the RAID as told from the HP support site. After that it went all down hill. I used the tutorials on how to use diskpart and load drivers from usb but it immediately goes back to BSOD.

What you need now is the mobo Manual to read how to configure your HD controller correctly.

Nobody has a paper manual any more. You go to the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC or mobo to study the Manual at any time.

I'm looking on the HP site now. I honestly don't know the motherboard or where I'd look for the specs if i opened up the case.

Why did you tell me this is a custom built system if it is the HP in your specs?

It was a custom build computer I bought from ebay. I did not receive a manual for it.

The Manual should be on the HP Downloads page for the model.

I bought it offline. From what the guy on ebay told me, it was an HP that was customized with the SSD, which I assumed was non standard for the HP laptop. I did the HP help and support and the model number came back as DV7T-7000 media center computer. I guess 16 GB of RAM is not standard for this model either.

I sent him several other emails about specific specs and anything else that was customized.

Sorry for the confusion.

Your manuals are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=5292645&

I don't see much about the RAID controller. You're likely going to need to get into BIOS setup to figure out how to disable RAID to install normally to a single HD. Then I'd disable one HD or physically unplug it to do the install.

Maybe there is another SATA controller choice besides the Intel that will be less problematic.

Dave and Essenbe will be better help on that.
