daily BSOD, iastor.sys, error 0x1000007E

Dear All,

I hope to find someadvice on an BSOD issue which I have been having for the last few months and which I tried to solve several times but nothing so far helped.
The issue is driving me crazy.. So I decided yesterday to reinstall to factory settings via the boot option and the recovery partition on the hard disk (I did not use the CD drive, As funny enough my CD DVD drive does not "feel"disks inside anymore". I dont know if this is even a related issue to the BSOD.) but i do not care so much about the cd drive anyway.)

I attached the requested zip file in attachment.
The BSOD message indicates

Welcome to the 7forums

Please check HP for driver updates for your chipset drivers or Intel drivers.
Please do NOT use the installed Intel program, but use the support page of HP.

I already used hp website to reinstall drivers for chipset and iastor however did help for the boss's.

Diagnostic Test

 DRIVER VERIFIER

   Warning

Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.

Please follow this tutorial to run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

   Note

Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

Just followed verifier approach, I got immediately a boss after rebooting the machine.
Tried twice to start up normally. Twice a boss.

Eventually started up now using system restore.
Now mousepad is also disabled...

Hey Axe,

I just uploaded the last zip file according to the BSOD post instructions.

In the mean while I tried today the following to resolve the iastor.sys bsod.

-Reinstall to factory settings
-after reboot I got the message that the system had experienced an unexpected shutdown.
-Upon checking the bug check I found out that the iastor.sys was probably causing he bsod.
-downloaded and installed the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver from HP site.
-downloaded and installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the HP site.

So far no BSOD for the last few hours.

What is this iastore technology actually doing and is it really needed?
I understand it has to do something with the HARD disk when using RAID settings.
Would replacing the HArd drive into an SSD drive help solving the BSOD issue?

The Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers are for many the chipset drivers, for some the RAID controller drivers, in your case a part of the chipset drivers.

With this Intel driver it wouldn't, because it is part of the chipset and the chipset is part of your motherboard.

Hey,

Just Got a new BSOD error, again related to iastor.sys (new bsod files in attachement)

- Updateding the chipset driver and Iastore driver were not helping
- Getting a new harddisk is not the solution, correct?

Can we assume that the motherboard is faulty?
Does some-one know another possible solution?

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver, you can use this tutorial to do so :ar: NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems

I tried your latest approach regarding the reinstalling the video card drivers.

I did the following:

1. uninstalled the mentioned Display driver uninstaller.
2. download from NVIDIA the latest driver tried to install.
3. Got error that the driver install failed. (see attachment.)
4. downloaded from HP website the display driver for Nvidia
5. Failed again to install the drivers..

Trying any of the HP service pack graphics drivers downloads failed.
Any advise how to get back the Nvidia drivers on this computer

I assume the image posted covers the problem with both nvidia and HP drivers (the same problem occurs with both drivers)?

Yes with both the Nvidia drivers and HP drivers.

Eventually I had to use a restore point to get back a driver which worked.

Could you please remove Daemon tools a.s.a.p., it is often a serious BSOD issue.

Assuming it is similar to previous crashes:

 HDD TEST

   Note

Please run HDTune first, in the order posted!

Run HDTune to

• check the health,
• scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
• run a benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following

• the health,
• the error scan,
• the benchmark incl. following
  • transfer rate,
  • access time,
  • burst rate,
  • cpu usage.

Run SeaTools DOS to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
Run the long test.

   Note

Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

Run chkdsk
Disk Check - Windows 7 Help Forums
Use option TWO with parameter /r
Upload the chkdsk log :arrow: Check Disk (chkdsk) - Read Event Viewer Log
