Icon not showing

Im using the registry to change the drive icons in my computer.

Attached is a screenshot of My Computer. all the icons are fine except for the C Drive. I double checked the path to the icon and its correct.

Using the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\C\DefaultIcon

to change the icon

So why isnt it showing up?

Hello Lloyd,

Double check with the yellow TIP box in the tutorial below to see if it may be a issue with a "Desktop.ini" file on the C: drive.

Nevermind, I found the problem. It was me just having to restart explorer.

But the desktop.ini reminded me. I have like 3 of them on my desktop, named with desktop (2)(3).ini. Can i delete those?

That's good news.

Sorry, but no you shouldn't delete them. You can only check the Hide protected operating system files box in Folder Options to hide them.

Well i think most of them got there because...

On my old computer, i had the folder background app, which creates a desktop.ini file in EVERY folder. So when i used Windows Easy Transfer to transfer to my new computer, i think it copied that file too. so are you sure it isnt safe to delete?

You can delete them safely, but the ones that Windows 7 uses will just be recreated again.
