Hi guys.

I have been poking around but don't see anything on this or maybe I just missed it. But is there tut or app that tells you what each icon number is referenced for in windows 7?

In other words i'm replacing all default windows system files (imageres.dll & shell32.dll), but can not tell what some of the numbers are for. IE, ini files, no associated files, ect. In the "imageres.dll" #67 what is its reference to? That what i'm trying to find. What each one is for.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

If you are looking for a list like:
# 03 Closed Folder
# 04 Open Folder
# 67 BMP File
# 68 GIF File
and so on...
I think your out of luck as I've never found one.
The only one for my old PC I ever had was the one I made myself. But if you do find one for Win 7 let me know!

Hello Gothic Death,

You can install with "Run as administrator" a free program called IconViewer that will add a Icons tab, after installing, to the properties page of files that contain icons in them. It will allow you to see the icons and their reference number. Plus, you will be able to extract and save the icon.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Yea that is what i though. I will have to poke around with a few of them to make sure i have the right icon for it then.

@Shawn
I'm using Restorator to edit the dll. But that little app sounds interesting. I will have to check it out.

Thanks to the both for trying.

Yeah, IconViewer can help you see the icon with it's number in a file so you will know which one it is that you are editing in Restorator.
