IE8 crash instantly after launch

Hey,
i am running windows 7 ultimate. my internet explorer 8 was automaticly installed when i installed windows 7 ultimate, it used to work fine but now it crashes immediatly after launching i have ran ie8 with no add-ons but it still crashes. i have uninstalled and re-installed numerous times and it still crashes. i have ran a virus/malware/spyware full system scan with microsoft security essientials but no viruses ect. were found. i have read over other forum posts and found nothing helpfull. i need help asap please

Hi -

Is there any error message when it crashes? Or does it -
- the background fades to white
- small spinning blue circle
- "Not Responding..." - top-right of screen

Do you have an Internet Security product installed, e.g., NIS, KIS, N360, McAfee, etc...?

Check Problem Reports for additional details -
START | type View all | select View all problem reports

Check the entries under Internet Explorer - 2x-click on a line item for additional information on each crash.

If you installed through the upgrade path then you could have introduced a lot of corrupt entries into your new operating system, and no amount of tinkering will get you to where a reformat and fresh install will take you

thanks for replying so quickly
it crashes without any white fading background, there is no spinning blue circle, no not-responding sign anywhere on the screen it closes without any warning.
i was running nortan internet security (i have no idea what version) when the problem started but when that ran out of subscriptopn i installed windows security essientials version 1.0 updated deffinitions and did a full system scan and it turned up no problems what soever

Try this go to internet options and go into advanced, scroll down to Security and uncheck enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks

i used uninstall or change a programme and uninstalled it from the laptop
did i do it right??

Norton usually does not uninstall cleanly use the Norton uninstall tool for your version it will remove left overs from the program uninstaller


Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

The links are guides, and I would follow computerplus's instructions. Norton may have left some crap, breaking IE8.

Also did you try the norton uninstall tool make sure your computer is clean download Malwarebytes Antimalware and or SuperAntiSpyware and run a scan and see what you may have learking because 9 times out of 10 what i see in my shop is infected computers and with infected computers there is always all kinds of issues like what you describe

If all the above fails, resort to this,
start - run - cmd - type sfc /scannow (if doesnt allow, run command prompt as admin) Once complete, restart machine and check.

I fixed my IE crash problem by the above command.
