IE8 crash instantly after launch

I get the same thing. IE 8 shuts down a lot. Every time I open it, either it shuts down immediately or sometimes it takes a few, but it shuts down and asks if I want to check online for a solution or just close the program. The top one has yet to do anything useful. My solution was to use FireFox because it doesn't shut down. I will monitor this thread and when someone finds a solution, I will use it. But, for now I am content to use Firefox.

OK, I did this and now IE instead of that message popping up it doesn't respond
like it should and down at the bottom left corner it says: "Error on Page"
I am still using FireFox because it works better and doesn't stop responding...
Hopefully, there will be some kind of software update to correct the problem.

You could just forget IE8 and use firefox. IE has always been slower than firefox anyway

Cavsfan did you try killing IE add ons

I disabled all of the ones that I thought could cause problems. I left a couple of HP ones that have been fine in the past.

you are using 64 bit OS and browser which has issues running flash

Exactly, I have a 64 bit OS, but I do not use IE 64 bit as flash is not supported.

You could just forget IE8 and use firefox. IE has always been slower than firefox anyway

I am using Firefox 3.5.7 and it is good. IE8 was slow on Vista, but it was faster on 7. But anything that constantly aborts at the slightest thing, I am not going to waste my time with and as quick as I can find an alternate. Voila Firefox!

Hi Steve -

My apologies for not responding sooner.

The above crash info leads to many more questions than answers, unfortunately. The crash data is taken from your second post made the same day the thread was created - January 4, 2010.

It does in fact show Internet Explorer crashing under the Microsoft NT layer DLL ntdll.dll; v 6.1.7600.16385; timestamp = 4a5bdadb, which = Mon Jul 13 21:09:47 2009 -- all perfect for Windows 7 RTM.

The crash occurred w/ a 0xc00000005 exception= memory access violation

What is puzzling to me is the iexplore.exe module itself - the version number 7.0.6000.16945 indicates it is IE7 - not IE8.

Timestamp - 4ae6e731 = Tue Oct 27 08:27:29 2009

The iexplore.exe module is listed in kb976325 - MS09-072: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer

Code:
[FONT=lucida console][SIZE=2]Iexplore.exe[/SIZE][SIZE=2]    [COLOR=red]7.0.6000.16945[/COLOR][/SIZE][SIZE=2]   634,632[/SIZE][SIZE=2]    27-Oct-2009[/SIZE][SIZE=2]    15:11[/SIZE][SIZE=2]     x86[/SIZE][/FONT]

There is no doubt that it is an IE7 module. IE8 comes with Windows 7.

Given the likelyhood of OS corruption based on the IE7 module, I would highly suggest that you re-install Windows 7 Ultimate.

Regards. . .

Have you tried disabling all addons then loading them one by one? Run sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt?

I disabled any addons that werre less than a year old and I ran the scan and no errors were found.
I have tried IE8 a couple of times and no crashes so far, but I am getting to like Mozilla Firefox.
It hasn't crashed yet.

Item grayed out

Try this go to internet options and go into advanced, scroll down to Security and uncheck enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks

I tried to go that but when I go to "enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks" the option is grayed out in the checked mode

I'm having the same problem, as soon as I start IE8 it shuts down with no warning. I have tried the suggestions above. When I start it in safe mode it works perfectly but not in normal mode. I has able to disable all the addons while in safe mode to no avail. Rerunning Avast virus scan. No Norton or internet security installed. Just installed Win 7 upgrade 32 bit to HP laptop.
