Hello lakhvirk, and welcome to Sevenforums!

I will provide you with two links - the first is an easy download that will attempt to automatically fix your computer. If you do not want to use this method for any reason, the second link will provide you with a detailed 'how-to'. The second tutorial will also provide you with a microsoft download 'fix it' if you are interested in that download instead.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/98056-sf-ie-restorator-troubleshooting-general-issues-ie.html
or
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/89919-troubleshooting-internet-explorer-issues.html

If either of these tutorials do not work, please let me know and I will try to help you further.

Hi Dusty,

It didn't work, downloaded and ran the Restorator (and didn't work), then tried the troubleshooting steps with same negative result. I've read so much about fixing this problem, running same steps over and over again, and can't figure out what's missing. Appreciate all your help and looking forward to further advice to solve the issue.

I am sorry to hear that, lakhvirk

I would personally recommend removing McAfee and I will tell you why. I've had to troubleshoot similar problems with other people over that very antivirus program. It is not well built and is unstable. The end choice is yours, but if you want to remove it, use this tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe.
If you would like a free, light, easy to use and safe antivirus, you might decide on MSE: Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows. If you would prefer something else, you might read what others have to say about it: http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/72070-whats-best-anti-virus.html

After that, restart your computer. Try this tutorial out for some repairs: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html - tutorial created by Brink

If it doesn't work, you might consider this tutorial, but just know with it, all of your settings will be reset (you will still be able to keep all of your programs, though): http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html - tutorial created by Brink

Hi again, Well, this is what shows up when SFC at cmd prompt:

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
C:\Windows\system32>

and I restarted and it still doesn't work. I can't do the repair install, as I do not have the Win 7 disk, my computer came preinstalled with Win 7. Any suggestions, please? Many thanks!

Hi Dusty,

Thank you so much for listening ... and all your help. Well, I'll hang around the forum for a couple of days, if there's something else I'm missing. I've restored to the 13th, but still no luck with the 32bit, and if nothing comes up, I'll just do a clean install, which I was trying to avoid. Anyways, again many thanks..

All those extra tunnel adaptors can cause problems such as you are describing.

If you want to get rid of those rogue tunnel adaptor entries then go to device manager, go to view at the top of the page and then select "show hidden devices". Then go to "Network adaptors" and just delate all the extra tunnel adaptors you see there, windows will create a new one automatically. After that check your ipconfig /all to see if they all have been delated.

If they all don't show up you can change a registry setting to make them all show up "backup the registry first". You should have a nice clean ipconfig after that.
smile.gif

Registry Settings, navigate too the following key.
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTE\CurrentControlSet\Control \Session Manager\Environment]
Value Name: DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Value Data: (1 = show all hidden devices)

After rebooting you can test IE 32 again and see if it helps.

Stock cpu fan and what came with the case
IE 8 32 bit not working but 64 bit is.

In Windows 7 Professional 64 bit computer, the IE 8 is 32 bit is not working but 64 bit is working. I am also not able to send/receive mails from Windows LIve/ Thunderbird or run Teamviewer/Skype. However the Feeds in Windows Mail are getting downloaded.
I have done 'Reset' in advance Tabs / 'sfs scannow' is clean / IE restorer has been run / Downloaded Firefox - but that does not run / Created new User Account - but that does not help / Downloaded IE 9 but there too 32 bit is not working whereas 64 bit is working.

Surprisingly IE8- 64 bit is working alright.

Appreciate help.

Hello bakshir, and welcome to the forums

First, I would recommend ensuring that your computer is malware-free. If you do not have an antivirus, find one that you like. If you do, us it.

Optional - If you would like, try this Microsoft scan in addition: Microsoft Safety Scanner - Antivirus | Remove Spyware, Malware, Viruses Free

Next, ensure that you have installed all the latest drivers for your laptop. Go to the Sony website to find them: Sony eSupport - Drivers & Software Updates - Select a Model

Next, try this:

Welcome to Seven Forums tallman27. Try this:

1. Go to start
2. In search box, type cmd , right click cmd.exe, and then click "Run as administrator"
3. Then type:

netsh winsock reset

4. Press enter
5. Restart PC

Hopefully that will fix it

A Guy

Let me know how it works out

Alrighty,

All of my posts apply to 32bit only (not 64)

Add-ons: Manage add-ons for Internet Explorer - Microsoft Windows Help
Try disabling all add-ons except for adobe reader/flash player.
Please leave all other add-ons disabled for now, until the issue is resolved. Additionally, make sure adobe add-ons are all updated by visiting the website: Download a free trial or buy Adobe products | Adobe downloads

Try reseting IE: How to reset Internet Explorer settings - :note: you have the option of keeping settings (passwords, etc) or deleting.

Make sure your computer is completely up to date through windows update - I will even recommend using IE9 or higher exclusively. IE8 is far less secure and less handy.

Ensure that your copy of windows is genuine: Genuine Microsoft Software - if it isn't, please do not reply. If it is and you still are having trouble, let me know!
