Hi all

IE9 seems to have a problem on some web sites (doesn't matter if comptability view is enabled or not) with forms so you can't for example log in

Chrome doesn't display the same problem

Here's the SAME website logon form from IE9 and Chrome

IE9 on the left -- LOGIN is written over where you would normally enter your password.
Chrome on the right displays correctly.

IE9 version running on W7 X-86.

Cheers
jimbo

Use F12 and see if changing the compatibility or browser modes (or some combo of the two) gets the page to display. Setting compatibility mode for a page doesn't go as far as the dev toolbar can - and while the dev toolbar won't help you fix it (unless it's your web site, of course), it can give you info to give to the web page designers. IE9 is pretty standards-compliant at this point, so it's likely the page is just coded improperly (versus the way IE used to be before IE8, where you could be pretty sure it was an IE problem rather than a page problem in IE6 and IE7...).

Hi there

Thanks for the suggestion --always appreciated - but I've tried all that.

Seems strange however that Chrome renders the site OK while IE9 has problems whatever the site coding.

BTW I've also tried Firefox and Konqueror (KDE) both on on Linux SUSE 11.3 and web site is OK so its something in IE9 -- whether I've set something wrong I don't know -- I just downloaded and installed IE9. The only change I made was to get the Menu bar to display using the Group policy editor gpedit.exe so I wasn't even hacking the registry.

Site displays OK in IE8.

Cheers

What is the default browser and document rendering modes when you press F12 on the page when in IE9? My guess is it's using quirks mode, which is not going to render well in some pages in IE9 (quirks mode means the page either doesn't have a doctype, or has one that when parsed with the page renders back using the old IE5 rules).

Hi there
I'll have a go with that tomorrow as I've re-installed IE8. I've got a W7 Virtual Machine I'll fire up later and see what happens.

Thanks -- now going to bed.
