Hi,

I'm having serious problems with my computer. I can't use system restore, change themes, can't hear sounds and I thought this could help, BUT I didn't get an install disc with my Asus and dont know what to do :( So is there anything I can do to restore my computer? I haven't got any backups I could use to restore.

Please help! Is there any other way to do this repair install?

Hello Stuf, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you had system restore turned on, then you could create a System Repair Disc to use to boot into the System Recovery Options screen to select and do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you had these issues.

If that does not help, and all else fails, then you could use the hidden partition, reserved for recovery purpose, on the HDD to restore your computer back to factory settings. Be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose first

To do a factory restore on a Asus computer:
  • Restart your computer.
  • Press the F9 key immediately when the ASUS logo appears. This will start the recovery procedure, including the installation of all the drivers and utilities.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions. Your computer should be restored back to factory settings afterwards.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

Seems like you've been given some great advice above, but in the future, always always have a method of repair and reinstallation. I'm always baffled when I see people buy OEM systems, but have no methods of a clean install or restoration install available. I don't include the partition on the hard drive because those are one of the first things I remove, once I've made recovery discs. If your only method of recovery is on the same active hard drive...then if the drives dies, so does your chance of recovering.

Follow Shawn's good advice.

If you do not have a manual for your Asus K50ID you can download from here:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-
At the search box, type in K50ID

F9 Recovery is at page A-14.
How to make Recovery disks is on page A-15.

You can Order Asus recovery disks from here:
ASUS eStore
At the search box, type in RECOVERY
