i got the error twice, once on my 6956, and now the 6801. I think its because of the DVD drive. The drive i had in it was a old **maybe 4 years** DVD-ROM drive from Sony. I just took out the DVD-RW DL drive from my pc **the one that installed perfectly** and put it in the other PC, lets see if it works :-P bb in a few.

where in the setup process did you get the error???

The very beginning when i clicked "Install Now"

YaY, that was definitely the problem, i put the new DVD drive in the other PC and it works fine. I guess since i burned the ISO on an RW or something the old DVD-ROM drive had trouble reading it.

you are using a 7+yr old drive????
cmon!!!...lol
ditch that drive and get a new one...
i was thinking maybe it was a firmware issue
but its almost impossible for this drive...
are you able to read most dvd's (me thinks some dvd's dont work on it???)
some old drive cant read some dvd's correctly based on the reflective material on the disc...
if i believe so this is one of them...

It could also happen randomly.

I booted all my Windows 7 installations from USB stick 8GB, after 7-8 installs, in one of them I got this error. Restarted, it was gone. I guess it fails to read the install.wim file or something. There's nothing wrong with the source, though, just a read problem.

Regards

I'm having the same problem. I tried your suggestions... re-burned the ISO at slower speeds, on different media and switched drives. I tried different disks on each drive but I get the same message everytime. When I try to look at the contents on the disk Windows basically locks up. Any ideas?

have you checked your hash and verified your disc???

since you switched drives this means that your download is courrupted....

download it again....

like limeos said this can also happen ramndomly....

you might need to try a few times...

Hi,
I have the same issue on an old Epox 8RDA3+ and Samsung S-Ata2 drive. My DVDrom is also S-ata and totally new.
I have downloaded 3 times Seven32bit, burned at x2 speed, but i always get this error message. So I am wondering if I could load it from an external drive? But this way should i do something to make this ext drive bootable? Maybe this could solve this annoying problem.

Hi darkassain,
Thx for your support.

I'm tryin and tryin, but at the end of the procedure, i alway get the message
drive specified invalid (in french "specification du lecteur non valide".
And then, when i try to open my drive, it says it is not formatted.
Whats the f***? I do not see where i am wrong.

EDIT: after "assign letter y", my drive is not formated anymore and i cannot open it anymore.
Note the mounted drive is GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD(H:) so the last command is xcopy h:\*.* /s/e/f y:\

Thanks, Darkassasin. I downloaded a fresh copy and burned it slow. I can open this one in Explorer to see the contents. Install went without a hitch!

I am suffering from the same issue. I have burned the .ISO 4 times, at varying speeds. It runs just fine inside vista, but when I boot from it does the OSImage error when it says "Setup is starting...". I've tried to just keep clicking to see if it will eventually read it, but it never does. You would think they would have a fixed beta out by now to resolve this issue.

@darkassain: Thank you man, it worked.

Ok, well I get the same error on an old Emachines laptop, and I've tried it on 2 different DVD burners. What would you suggest doing?
