Is there a utility that I can use to increase my mouse speed beyond the maximum that can be set in the Control Panel? (Win 7).

I would think that limit is set in the driver and is the maximum that the mouse can handle.

Can I make my 50 mph motorcycle go faster? NO

Are you talking about the speed it crosses the screen?
If so what type of mouse do you have ball. laser or ?
You can increase the movement speed in the Control Panel under Mouse.

That's a little abbrasive, Iggy. My question does not pertain to motorcycles and no comparison can be drawn between them. The mouse is a touchpad, but I don't think it's relevant. Like I said, I've set it to the maximum in Control Panel and I want to go beyond that maximum. TweakUI allowed this for Windows XP. I'd like a similar utility or work around for Windows 7.

Sorry if I sounded abrasive but I was just trying to show a compaison.
Originally you said you had a mouse. Now you say you have a touchpad.
Definitely two different types of hardware.
I have a multi dpi laser mouse and the most I can get out of it is 2000 dpi. It won't go any faster because it is a hardware issue and not a software issue.
I'd still like to see what others may suggest on your solution.

Did your try TuneUp Utilities 2010? It's not a freeware, though.

Good-luck :)

Hey JK; in the registry, mousespeed was set to '1'; I increased it to '2' so now when I restart, the speed should be double. I left the thresholds as they were. Thanks :)

WiNd0Ws7, thanks for the suggestion but no, it didn't feature a mousespeed option :(

I'd be interested to know if it works. Would you mind just dropping a quick reply here with the results?

I only increased mousespeed to '2' and it seems to be faster (less of the tracking pad covered to cross screen), but I haven't made any measurements so I could be imagining it...

you need a better mouse..
get a Logitech G9 - it gives you masses of control over what the normal OS settings provide..

just check the features available..

That's good advice in some situations, for sure. I already have another Gigabtyte mouse that lets me choose between 800 and 1600 dpi (£8 inc. delivery from Play.com) but when using my laptop, it's sometimes more convenient to use the touchpad.
